JOSÉ COSTA D’ASSUNÇÃO BARROS

Associate Professor, Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro.

Has a degree in History (1993) and a degree in Music (Musical Composition) from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1989). Has a Master’s (1994) and Doctorate in History from Universidade Federal Fluminense (1999).

Participates in the Consultive Council or peer reviewers for various academic periodicals, including internationally. Coordinator of the research laboratory LAPETHI – Laboratory for Research in the Theory of History and Interdisciplinarities

Has published 30 books and around 130 articles, 32 in international journals (Portugal, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Canada, Colombia, Chile, Mexico).

In the area of History, has mainly worked with themes in the following areas: Historiography, Theory of History, Methodology of History, Cultural History, History of Art, History of Music, History of Literature, History of the City, Cinema-History, History of Inequalities and Differences. In the area of Music, has worked in the area of Historical Musicology and the  History of Music.

Areas of interest: Theory and Historiography, Cultural History, History of Art, History of Music, Cinema-History, History of Literature, Identities.
