Has a degree in History from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1996), a Master’s in History from Universidade Federal Fluminense (1999), a Doctorate in Social History from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2005). Did Post-Doctoral research in Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (2019) and Instituto de Ciências Sociais, Universidade de Lisboa (2009).

Has experience in the area of History, with an emphasis on the History of Brazil. Mainly works with the following themes: economics; society; slavery.
Areas of interest: Slavery in the Americas, freemen in slaveholding societies; Slave families, alforria, forros, and former slaves; Ancien Regime Brazil, hierarchies and social mobility; History of the Portuguese Empire in Africa and Colonial Brazil; Economic and Social History of Brazil (Colony and Empire); History of free labor in slaveholdings societies; History of pre-colonial Africa.
