RESEARCH GROUP

  • Research and Extension Center on Education, Aging, and Social Work – NEPEESS
Coordination: Fabrícia Vellasquez Paiva and Simone da Cunha Tourino Barros

The group seeks to discuss education and rights from the perspective of public policies in their language dimension, especially considering the most vulnerable populations, such as elderly workers. It aims to support the implementation and development of actions for the rights councils for the elderly and provide training on aging, social control/councils, and public policies, carried out through four work fronts: study groups, educational activities in groups, research, and a Training Course for Councilors; extension activities.

RESEARCH PROJECTS

  • Social Narratives in Other Stories and New Memories: Spaces, Themes, and Subjects Revisited in Literature
    Period: (2019 – Present)

Literature is grounded in a broader notion of art (Barthes, 1987; 1996), close to a story that not only involves the reader but considers them, through proximity with the book object, as the author of the text read (Sisto, 2001)—thus, it is also a literary genre, but not only, for children. The project builds on the importance of an aesthetic and critical experience (Bakhtin, 2003; Adorno, 2013) with language, especially in literature as art, creating new experiences, new memories (Benjamin, 1987). As a continuation of the “De linhas” project, this aims to continue the storytelling process organized with the team and participants, based on previously selected social themes considered “taboos,” via social media (still following the model adopted due to the pandemic). This will also create other spaces and memories, both affective and institutional, of reading and literary production addressing urgent social themes, especially considering the most vulnerable populations.
Objectives: To enable an expansion of aesthetic repertoire in the formation of collective subjects through their own and invisible social narratives.

Research Group: Research and Extension Center on Education, Aging, and Social Work – NEPEESS

Funding: FAPERJ

Keywords: Narratives; Aesthetic Reflection; Storytelling; Society.

  • De linhas, Other Stories, and New Memories: Spaces, Themes, and Possible Subjects for Storytelling and Book Creation in Literature
    Period: (2017 – 2018)

The project presents itself through narratives, memories, and social identities. This memory collection justifies itself as a cultural activity, which constitutes the essence of extension work and enables new forms of reflection on the formation of the social being in a holistic manner—articulating with the field of knowledge and themes of Education. With each selected theme and work, participants will also compose their own narratives—written or visual—enabling new opportunities for critical thinking and self-reflection. Objectives: To disseminate literature with social themes in university spaces—through the practice of storytelling and book production.
