Enrollment Suspension
The normative framework for enrollment suspension in the stricto sensu graduate programs at UFRRJ is outlined in Deliberation No. 631/2023, which establishes the conditions and procedures for students to temporarily interrupt their studies.
General Provisions on Enrollment Suspension: it constitutes a formal interruption of academic activities, with a complete halt of coursework for a specified period. In general, suspension does not extend the total duration of the program, except in specific cases. Enrollment suspension may be requested under exceptional circumstances for a period of up to six months, renewable once for an additional six months, subject to the approval of the advisor and the Program Collegiate (PPGEduc). The request must include a justification, supported by documentary evidence, as well as the desired duration of the suspension. Enrollment suspension can only be requested after the completion of the first semester of the program.
Exceptions and Extensions: Certain circumstances allow for extensions beyond the standard suspension period: 1) Maternity Leave/Adoption: Students who suspend enrollment due to childbirth or adoption are entitled to an extension of the program completion deadline by up to 120 days and 2) Serious Illness: If the suspension is due to a certified serious illness, the program completion deadline will be extended for the same period as the suspension.
Procedures for Requesting Enrollment Suspension: The student must formally submit a request, with the approval of their advisor and the PPGEduc Program Collegiate. The request will be evaluated by the Program Collegiate, which will decide whether to approve the suspension. If approved, the suspension must be formally reported to the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies (PROPPG). Suspension will not be granted if the student is already in an extended deadline period for the submission of their final course work, dissertation, or thesis, except in cases of serious illness.
Additional Considerations: The Program Collegiate has the autonomy to evaluate and decide on suspension requests based on the established criteria. Any suspension request must be formally communicated to PROPPG.
PPGEduc ensures that students facing exceptional circumstances have the possibility to interrupt their studies while maintaining their right to continue their academic training after the suspension period, in accordance with institutional regulations.
