OBJECTIVES

General Aim

To contribute to the education and professional development of individuals in the field of Education, particularly in the area of concentration “Education, Contemporary Contexts, and Popular Demands,” enabling them to engage in research, outreach, teaching, and management activities in Higher Education or Basic Education.

Specific Aims

– To produce knowledge and strengthen research in Education, Contemporary Contexts, and Popular Demands at UFRRJ through close collaboration between researchers and research groups from the Institute of Education (IE) and the Multidisciplinary Institute (IM).

– To generate knowledge in specific domains of Education, aligned with the guidelines of the concentration area “Education, Contemporary Contexts, and Popular Demands,” and, more specifically, with the research lines of the program: Contemporary Studies and Educational Practices; Social Inequalities and Educational Policies; and Ethnic-Racial and Gender Education: Languages and Afro-Diasporic Studies.

– To develop scientific research that promotes the agency of individuals and communities, particularly in relation to the economic, political, social, and cultural geography of Baixada Fluminense, Sul Fluminense, Vale do Paraíba, Costa Verde, and the West Zone of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro.

– To foster a critical understanding of the educational landscape, with particular emphasis on contemporary educational practices and popular demands.

– To enhance the field of education by integrating knowledge related to social, economic, and educational inequalities with the prevailing political conditions in contemporary Brazil and popular cultures.

– To train highly qualified researchers proficient in research methods and techniques in Education, Contemporary Contexts, and Popular Demands, generating a multiplier effect for the humanistic development of the program’s students, in constant interdependence with the educational field and the broader social reality that sustains and contextualizes it.

– To stimulate creativity and provide continuous opportunities for the updating, improvement, and specialization of researchers in Education and related fields.

– To train reflective and critical educators capable of developing their own methodologies for teaching, studies, and research, both within and beyond the classroom, addressing national, regional, and global issues.

– To offer UFRRJ graduates, particularly those from teacher education programs, a solid foundation for conducting research in Education, Contemporary Contexts, and Popular Demands.

– To contribute to the professional development of educators in Basic and Higher Education within their respective teaching contexts.

– To generate knowledge in Education through research, supporting the formulation of policies that expand professional opportunities for teacher-researchers, enhance their own practices, and promote inclusive educational processes for children, youth, adults, and the elderly.

– To develop research that addresses emerging themes in contemporary educational contexts and popular demands in Basic Education.

– To provide teachers from various fields of Basic Education with the opportunity to conduct research related to teaching and learning processes.
