About the Faculty

The faculty of PPGEduc at UFRRJ has been actively engaged with well-established national and international graduate programs, seeking to strengthen educational research and explore new investigative perspectives in the field. The program includes faculty members recognized as references in their respective areas, as evidenced by frequent invitations for lectures and participation in master’s and doctoral defense committees. This alignment and academic exchange manifest in various actions: (a) academic cooperation, including participation in activities at other higher education institutions and the organization of events at UFRRJ with invited Brazilian and international scholars; (b) articulation and involvement in interinstitutional research groups and networks; and (c) support for faculty and students in conducting research missions, coursework at other institutions, participation in academic events relevant to the field of education or the research themes of the program, as well as postdoctoral internships.
PPGEduc faculty members hold or are pursuing postdoctoral training at renowned institutions in Brazil (PUC-RJ, UDESC, UERJ, UFES, UFF, UFMT, UFPR, UFRJ, UNICAMP, USP) and abroad (Arizona State University, ASU/USA; Goethe-Universität Frankfurt Am Main/Germany; Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú; Rutgers – The State University of New Jersey; Universidad de Santiago de Compostela – Campus Santiago, USC, Spain; Universidade Aberta de Lisboa, UAB-PT, Portugal; Università Degli Studi Di Torino/Italy). They actively engage in academic collaboration to sustain the program’s high-quality intellectual production, social impact, and integration with both Basic and Higher Education.
Additionally, PPGEduc faculty contribute to continuing teacher education through research projects funded institutionally or by external agencies, university extension initiatives, and institutionalized partnerships, primarily in cooperation with municipal education departments in low-HDI and socioeconomically vulnerable areas of the Baixada Fluminense region (Seropédica, Itaguaí, Nova Iguaçu, Mesquita, Belford Roxo, Duque de Caxias). Faculty and students from PPGEduc actively participate in these initiatives. Since most PPGEduc students are Basic Education teachers, the program’s training process extends its influence across diverse peripheral regions near the campuses where it operates.
The research and extension activities developed by the program have a significant impact on pedagogical training processes aimed at sustainable development and social inclusion, particularly for individuals in socially vulnerable conditions. This includes students from politically and socially disadvantaged school communities, quilombola and Indigenous populations, and minority groups defined by gender, race, and/or ethnicity. The program’s affirmative action policies in the selection process reflect its faculty’s commitment to inclusion, respect for diversity, and the promotion of equitable access to high-quality education.
PPGEduc faculty members are also actively involved in internal committees (PIBIC/CNPq, PIBID/Capes, Pedagogical Residency, Ethics Committee) and external academic bodies (CNPq Education Committee, the UERJ Chamber for the Implementation of Antiracist and Intersectional Affirmative Policies – CIPAAI, the Rio de Janeiro State Education Council). Additionally, they hold leadership positions in professional associations and scientific organizations in the field of education, with some serving as presidents or board members of prominent academic entities. Faculty members also contribute to undergraduate programs by participating in thesis defense committees and coordinating various undergraduate programs at UFRRJ, reinforcing the integration between research, teaching, and professional training.
To achieve its academic objectives, the PPGEduc faculty coordinates a well-established structure of 18 research groups across its three research lines, operating within the two supporting Institutes: IE (Seropédica Campus) and IM (Nova Iguaçu Campus).
PPGEduc’s accreditation and reaccreditation guidelines aim to strengthen its collaborative management and academic excellence across the three core dimensions of graduate education: teaching, research, and extension, in alignment with CAPES requirements. Faculty members must meet specific criteria, including participation in meetings and committees, maintaining research groups, producing high-quality academic work, updating their Lattes CVs, teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, securing research funding, and engaging in internationalization efforts. Reaccreditation will be based on a biennial evaluation of academic production, while accreditation will follow public calls and goals established by the program’s academic committee.
