IC-1334 – Chemistry Seminar I – Doctorate

OBJECTIVES:

Preparation, development and presentation of individual seminars, using current issues in the field of Chemistry as a reference, allowing the student to have contact with various relevant topics in Chemistry, expanding their knowledge.

The objectives of the discipline are also:

1. Provide training for doctoral students in didactic presentation of topics;

2. Stimulate critical analysis of different topics in the area of ​​Chemistry;

3. Stimulate the public discussion of ideas, seeking to promote their training for public presentation of relevant topics in the scientific context.

SUMMARY:

The course will address current and relevant topics in the area of ​​Chemistry, which vary each semester.

PROGRAM CONTENT:

1. The subject Chemistry Seminars II is mandatory for all doctoral students.
2. Enrollment in the Chemistry Seminars II discipline must be made from the second academic semester and, at the most, in the third academic semester of the doctoral student.

3. The student must attend, obligatorily, a minimum of 75% of the seminars given in the current academic semester, in addition to giving 01 (one) seminar in the academic semester in which they are enrolled in the discipline.
4. The subject to be presented at the seminar must be relevant to the area of ​​Chemistry and can be chosen by the student or, at the discretion of the teacher(s) responsible for the subject, chosen from a list of previously proposed topics. Subjects directly linked to the results of the student’s thesis are excluded.

5. The title of the seminar must be communicated to the teacher(s) responsible for the subject by the second week, after the start of the semester, and the presentation date will be decided at the first meeting between the students and the teacher(s) responsible for the subject.

6. The seminar’s presentation time is 40-50 minutes, after which 30 minutes are allowed for teachers to discuss the candidate and discuss the subject in depth by everyone present.

7. The concept attributed to the student is the responsibility of the discipline coordinator(s) for the current academic semester, and must be submitted at the end of the academic semester.
8. The supervisor must necessarily be present at his student’s seminar presentation. In case of impediment, you must indicate another professor, preferably the co-supervisor, if applicable.

9. The student must present and distribute to those present a summary and basic bibliography of the subject to be discussed in the seminar, in addition to delivering to the teacher(s) responsible for the subject a document, of at least 10 pages, which contains the following topics on the subject: introduction; discussion; conclusions and perspectives; bibliography.

METHODOLOGY:

Expository classes, with various teaching resources (blackboard/chalk, data show, multimedia and computers). Students will be assessed with individual seminars and individual or group work. Individual tests may be applied.

BIBLIOGRAPHY:

In preparing the seminars, articles and reviews published in scientific journals specialized in the field of Chemistry will be used. The bibliography used by students will be varied, according to the interests of each group, always involving work of importance for different areas of Chemistry. The bibliography used by each student will necessarily be analyzed by the teacher(s) responsible for the subject.
