The PPGAO is structured in such a way as to encourage student development, based on the experiences and pre-existing knowledge of the professionals who joined it, thus complementing and deepening their technological and investigative skills. The PPGAO provides students with remarkable innovations in their training. Teachers adopt participatory methodologies to mediate knowledge and methods in research, using the Fazendinha Agroecológica Km 47 as a classroom and living laboratory, with results directly obtained in the production system.

From an agroecological research point of view, the objective is to improve the agroecosystem as a whole; which means the need for greater emphasis on knowledge, analysis and interpretation of the complex existing relationships. In the conditions of the Baixada Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro, production is basically divided into three cycles: summer, autumn-winter and spring. Modules are scheduled for the months of March (late summer), June-July (autumn-winter) and October (spring).

With this breadth, master’s students follow a dynamic system in three distinct moments of production in the field, in which the best practices, technologies and processes pointed out by the research are developed to optimize production, ecological aspects, economic yields. The social basis of the approach is family farming and localized agro-food systems. Basic, agroecological principles are mediated by teachers, allowing them to be applied to specific contexts of a biophysical and cultural basis in states other than Rio de Janeiro, which in itself presents a significant diversity of microclimates.

• To enroll, access the disciplines on Sigaa in the Teaching tab > Enrollment On-Line > Enroll.
• Students from other postgraduate programs at UFRRJ: access Sigaa, ABA Teaching > Enrollment On-Line > Perform Enrollment – ​​Enrollment Options > In Other Programs. The PPGAO Coordination must approve enrollments, as well as the coordination and advisor of the student’s home program. Enrollment requests from students in other postgraduate programs will be approved in order of submission, respecting the number of vacancies available in each class.

Release of concepts : the professor has up to 30 working days after the end of the discipline or activity to launch in SIGAA.

Qualification and dissertation defense: Advisors must schedule the examination at Sigaa.
