Objectives

General Objective:

– Generate, develop, innovate, disseminate technical-scientific knowledge and provide technological assistance in the area of Phytosanity, Biotechnology, Technological Innovation and Quality Management, for the benefit of sustainable agriculture for Brazilian society;

– To be recognized as a benchmark of excellence for the technical-scientific production and quality of services in the area of phytosanity and biotechnology, for the sustainability of agriculture, and for the organizational values and benefits generated for the Brazilian society;

– To improve the knowledge and practical skills of professionals in the areas of phytosanity, applied biotechnology and to develop basic and applied research in order to contribute to sustainable solutions for the Brazilian agricultural sector;

– Training and improvement of students, teachers, researchers and professionals in phytosanity and applied biotechnology.

Specific Objectives:

– To identify, taxonomically, mites, insects, nematodes and microorganisms that can act as biological control agents of agricultural and/or forest pests, as well as, of infesting or parasitic plant species, as well as, microorganisms (bacteria, mycorrhizal fungi) that can act as agents of improvement in the sanity of plant species or that favor resistance to agricultural and/or forest pests and/or microorganisms;

– To study the interactions between pests, phytopathogens and agricultural and/or forest microorganisms with plant species;

– Develop techniques and methods to control pests and phytopathogens that affect cultivated plants, with emphasis on the creation of biotechnologies that reconcile agricultural production with environmental sustainability;

– Develop products and/or biotechnological processes aiming at obtaining traps against plagues and/or xylophagous microorganisms, as well as, their action in the wood deterioration process;

– Develop prototypes of diagnostic kits for pests and/or agricultural and/or forest microorganisms;

– Develop products and/or biotechnological processes aiming at obtaining plant species with genetic resistance or tolerance to pests and/or agricultural and/or forest microorganisms.
