OBJECTIVE

The Graduate Program in Chemical Engineering has a number of objectives. The main objectives are as follows:

  1. Qualifying and improving teachers for higher education;
    2. Broadening the professional landscape for technicians and researchers from companies;
    3. Adapting professionals to the new labor market;
    4. Training human resources for research and development activities.

Secondary objectives, but no less important, include:

  1. Improving the technical and professional level of DEQ professors and, as a result, refining the quality of the undergraduate courses offered;
    2. Using graduate studies as a way to develop the local community (small rural producers looking for technological solutions associated with production);
    3. Designing and developing regional projects and provision of services, and others.

The coordination between teaching and research and between graduate and undergraduate programs takes place in a number of different ways:
The graduate program is designed to improve the teaching staff in both recycling knowledge and in learning new subjects. This benefits the undergraduate program, which would have better qualified teachers who are more encouraged to pass on this knowledge;
The opportunities for students to work with research increases in the graduate program. The research includes Scientific Initiation, which provides them with the chance to expand their knowledge and, consequently, promote interdisciplinarity in undergraduate courses.
