Scholarships may be granted by CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel), CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development), FAPERJ (Carlos Chagas Filho Foundation for Research Support of the State of Rio de Janeiro), and other funding agencies. The grants will be awarded in accordance with the regulations of each respective funding agency.

UFRRJ (Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro) also participates in the Institutional Qualification Program (PQI).

Students from developing countries with which Brazil maintains cultural, scientific, and technological cooperation agreements may apply for scholarships through the PEC-PG Program (Programa de Estudantes-Convênio de Pós-Graduação), managed by CAPES. Scholarship holders are required to devote themselves full-time to the academic program.
