The Graduate Program in Veterinary Sciences (PPGCV) at UFRRJ is committed to training and empowering highly qualified professors, researchers, and professionals in Veterinary Sciences and related fields through a dynamic interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach.

General Objective of the Program

The Graduate Program in Veterinary Sciences (PPGCV) aims to prepare and advance qualified professors, researchers, and professionals in Veterinary Sciences and related fields through an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach. The program encourages students to address scientific challenges with a broad, integrative perspective—bridging disciplines, fostering empathy, and embracing diverse forms of knowledge. PPGCV promotes a critical, socially engaged research environment where science serves innovation and the emancipation of thought.

Mission

To train highly qualified professionals in the veterinary sciences, generating knowledge, innovation, and broad social impact.

Vision

To establish itself as a graduate program recognized for its excellence in human resource training and to expand its international presence over the next decade (2020-2030).

A Brief History

The Master’s Program in Veterinary Parasitology was established in 1965, restructured as the Graduate Program in Veterinary Medicine – Veterinary Parasitology in 1972, and accredited by the CFE in 1975. In 1977, the program began offering a Doctorate level as well. In 2001, the program introduced a new concentration area in Animal Health and changed its name to the Graduate Program in Veterinary Sciences. Since 2013, the Graduate Program in Veterinary Sciences (PPGCV) has maintained a single concentration area: Veterinary Sciences. In the last CAPES four-year evaluation (2013-2016), the program received a rating of 6.
