Show the main metal complexes applied in medicine, both in therapy and diagnosis, their biological targets, mechanisms of action and recent advances.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Menu<\/strong><br \/>\nIntroduction to the study of metalloproteins and metal ion homeostasis; as well as correlated diseases and toxicity of different metal ions. Metals in medicine: study of metal complexes for the treatment of diseases and metal complexes used for clinical diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program Content<\/strong><br \/>\n1. Introduction to the study of metal ions in cellular metabolism<br \/>\n1.1. Structure of metalloproteins, prosthetic groups and enzymatic cofactors<br \/>\n1.2. Importance of the main metalloproteins in cellular metabolism<br \/>\n1.3. Inborn errors of metabolism associated with metalloproteins<br \/>\n2. Homeostasis of essential and non-essential metal ions<br \/>\n2.1. Metabolism of iron, copper and other essential metal ions<br \/>\n2.2. Fenton reactions and the generation of free radicals<br \/>\n2.3. Toxicity of cadmium, chromiumVI and other non-essential metal ions<br \/>\n3. Platinum Complexes in Cancer Therapy<br \/>\n3.1. Cisplatin mechanism of action<\/p>\n<p>3.2. Resistance mechanisms associated with cisplatin<br \/>\n3.3. 2nd and 3rd generation complexes<br \/>\n4. New strategies for obtaining antitumor metal complexes<br \/>\n4.1. Non-Traditional Platinum Complexes<br \/>\n4.2. Non-Platinum-Based Complexes<br \/>\n4.3. Non-classical metal complexes: Au, Gd, Ga, among others.<br \/>\n4.4. Obtaining prodrugs: complexes of CoIII, PtIV, RuII, metalloporphyrins, etc.<br \/>\n5. Metal complexes in the treatment of other diseases<br \/>\n5.1. Ferroquine and analogues in the treatment of malaria<br \/>\n5.2. Antimonials in the treatment of Leishmaniasis<br \/>\n5.3. Complexes of gold (arthritis), vanadium (diabetes), ruthenium (Alzheimer&#8217;s), etc.<br \/>\n6. Metal complexes as diagnostic agents<br \/>\n6.1. Complexes as imaging agents<br \/>\n6.2.
