In partnership between the Institute of Education (IE) and the Multidisciplinary Institute (IM) at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ), the Graduate Program in Education, Contemporary Contexts, and Popular Demands (PPGEduc) was established and officially recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC) through Ordinance No. 590, dated June 19, 2009, with the creation of the Master\u2019s program. Subsequently, the Doctoral program was authorized by Ordinance No. 0919, dated August 18, 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PPGEduc is accredited by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) and received a RATING OF 04 in the most recent quadrennial evaluation (2021). Currently, PPGEduc has 30 permanent faculty members and 9 collaborating faculty members, offering an average of 30 Master\u2019s and 30 Doctoral admissions per year. Courses are conducted at the Serop\u00e9dica and Nova Igua\u00e7u campuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The implementation of the Doctoral Program in Education in 2016 introduced new challenges while simultaneously consolidating a reference hub for knowledge production in the field of education within one of the most complex urban regions of the country. Having overcome this initial stage, the program has entered a new phase focused on the theoretical and methodological deepening of contemporary thought, aiming to address popular demands. This process unfolds within a context in which these demands emerge with great intensity, endowing the scientific work developed with social and political significance while maintaining academic excellence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a key reference for graduate studies in education in the Baixada Fluminense region of Rio de Janeiro state, PPGEduc plays a fundamental role in training highly qualified researchers and faculty members for scientific development in the field of education, as well as for teaching in higher and basic education. Given the social, political, and economic complexity of its context, PPGEduc\u2019s scientific production is characterized by academic engagement with popular and democratic demands, while preserving the objectivity necessary for scientific rigor. The program is structured into three research lines that guide the studies and investigations carried out by its faculty and students: 1) Contemporary Studies and Educational Practices; 2) Social Inequalities and Educational Policies and, 3) Ethnic-Racial and Gender Education: Languages and Afro-Diasporic Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since its inception, PPGEduc has graduated 461 students, further consolidating its relevance in academic training and knowledge production in the field of education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
